A New York start
Jennifer Lopez grew up in New York in a family with Puerto Rican roots. Her early screen work led to prominent film roles in the mid-1990s, including Money Train. Playing the title character in Selena brought her wider attention; Out of Sight then showed her in a very different crime-film role.
Albums alongside films
Lopez entered the recording business with On the 6 in 1999. She followed it with J.Lo in 2001 and This Is Me... Then in 2002, while continuing to lead films such as The Wedding Planner. Her career developed across pop and R&B recordings and cinema rather than moving permanently from one medium to the other.
