Hugh Jackman: from Wolverine to musical theatre
A defining screen role
Australian performer Hugh Jackman became internationally known as Wolverine in X-Men (2000). He returned to the character across several films, including Logan (2017). The long-running role gave continuity to a screen career that was never limited to comic-book films.
Broadway recognition
Onstage, Jackman played the lead in The Boy from Oz. The performance won him the 2004 Tony Award for leading actor in a musical. That award is a useful counterpoint to the action-film image: singing and live performance were central parts of his career.
Film musicals and other roles
Jackman brought his musical-theatre skills to Les Misérables (2012) and portrayed P. T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman (2017). He also appeared in dramas such as Prisoners (2013). These projects show how he has moved between franchise cinema, drama and the screen musical.
