Francesco Totti: Roma’s one-club captain
A teenage debut in Rome
Francesco Totti made his Serie A debut for Roma at 16 in March 1993. Rather than moving among major European clubs, he built his entire senior club career in his home city. That long association made his development as a forward inseparable from Roma’s modern history.
The title and the national team
Roma won the Italian league in 2001 with Totti in its side. He also represented Italy from 1998 to 2006, reaching the European Championship final in 2000 and winning the World Cup in 2006. His club and international careers reached their peaks on different stages.
A long final chapter
Totti finished as Serie A’s top scorer in the 2006–07 season, and Roma added Italian Cup titles in 2007 and 2008. His final Roma appearance came in May 2017. Across 25 seasons, he became the club’s defining long-serving player, with 250 league goals for Roma.
